Reynolds Intellectual Assessment Scales™
Wide Range Assessment of Memory and Learning, Second Edition

The Leiter-R is a totally nonverbal test of intelligence and cognitive abilities. It is easily administered and quickly and objectively scored. Its game-like administration holds a child's interest.

The Leiter-R consists of two nationally standardized batteries: a revision of the original Visualization and Reasoning (VR) domains for measuring IQ and the new Attention and Memory (AM) domains. Both batteries include unique growth scores that measure small but important improvement in children with significant cognitive disabilities.

Because the Leiter-R is nonverbal, it is especially suitable for children and adolescents that are cognitively delayed; autistic; disadvantaged; nonverbal, non-English speaking, or ESL; or speech-, hearing- or motor-impaired; or have ADHD or TBI. And because the Leiter-R measures fluid intelligence, which does not change significantly in the adult years, it can be used effectively with older subjects.

Special Features of the Leiter-R:

  • New Attention and Memory domains (AM Battery) accurately identify children with ADHD, learning disabilities, or neuropsychological impairments.
  • Spans ages 2 to 20.11 years, exceeding that of CTONI, TONI, and UNIT and completely covering the ranges of WPPSI-R and WISC®-III.
  • New growth scores for all domains enable professionals to see the progression of improvement across time, irrespective of age-based standard scores.
  • Offers flexibility and fast screening:
-IQ Screening Assessment in 25 minutes.
-LD/ADHD Screening Assessment in 25 minutes.
-Gifted Screening Assessment in 35 minutes.
-Reasoning & Visual Battery in 40 minutes.
-Memory & Attention Battery in 35 minutes.
  • High correlation with traditional intelligence tests--Correlates 85 with WISC-III Full Scale IQ and .85 with the original Leiter IQ Scale.
  • No cultural or language bias--Psychometric studies on Native American, Hispanic, and African American groups show that the Leiter-R to have exceptional fairness for all cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
  • In addition to traditional IQ scores, Leiter-R provides scaled scores for each subtest to identify specific strengths and weaknesses, and percentile and age equivalence scores that are easily understood by parents and others with whom the test results will be shared.
  • Four social-emotional rating scales (Examiner, Parent, Self-Rating, and Teacher) provide essential information about a child's activity level, attention, impulse control, and other emotional characteristics that may interact with both test performance and functional performance at home and at school.
  • Provides a complete profile of cognitive strengths and weaknesses. Includes 20 subtests and numerous composites that measure both general intelligence and discrete ability areas. Scores are provided for each subtest and skill area, as well as a composite IQ score.
  • Standardized on 1,719 typical children and adolescents and 692 atypical children (representing nine clinical groups) ages 2 to 20.11 years, using a national stratification plan based on 1993 U.S. Census Bureau statistics.
  • Extensive studies of internal consistency, test-retest and decision-consistency reliability, and construct and criterion validity, are reported in the Manual.
